S&S at Sturgis

August 4th, 2011 No comments

Here we are, facing down the barrel of another year at Sturgis. This year we are going to bring some firepower of our own and one lucky person is going to come home from the Broken Spoke Saloon (downtown) with a brand new, 1 of a kind, V113 engine made by yours truly, S&S Cycle.

Mark your calendar and set yourself a reminder to be at the Broken Spoke on Wednesday, August 10, for this year’s S&S Night. The giveaway starts at 9pm but be sure to get there early. The only catch is your presence is required to be eligible to win. That’s it.

“What sort of engine we talking about here?” Well I’m glad you asked.  It’s the V113, replacement engine for Evolution® big twins. The V113 yields a broad torque curve while maintaining excellent reliability, making it a great engine for any Evolution® equipped big twin. But this one is NOT the average V113 though. This engine is 1 of a kind, in a black finish not offered in our usual lineup. Another special feature is this one comes with the Tuned Induction System that has nearly twice the filtering area as our teardrop air cleaner. Normally this engine, depending on options, retails for about $7,650.00.  Not a bad haul for coming to party with us at the Spoke!

FITMENT

  • 1984–’99 carbureted chassis
  • Custom chassis designed for Evolution engines

FEATURES AND BENEFITS

  • Shorter than stock height engine makes installation easy
  • S&S Super G carburetor with tuned induction system
  • S&S® Super Stock® ignition system

S&S V113 Engine Specifications

Displacement:  113″

Bore: 4″

Stroke: 41/2″

Camshaft: 600

Piston Type: S&S forged

Compression Ratio: 10.1:1

So we hope to see you front and center at the Broken Spoke Saloon, downtown Sturgis at 9pm (or sooner), Wednesday, August 10, for the S&S Night and engine giveaway! Good times will be had by all.

Powersport Institute Students Build Custom Motorcycle for AMD World Championship Competition

July 28th, 2011 No comments

Bike will Debut at Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August

NORTH RANDALL, Ohio – Students from leading tech training school The PowerSport Institute (PSI) spent the last several weeks building a custom chopper-bagger style bike they named “Students’ Pride” to enter in the World Championship of Custom Bike Building competition.

The World Championship of Custom Bike Building exists to showcase and promote international custom motorcycle design and engineering quality, craftsmanship and innovation; and to promote the evolution of custom motorcycling in ways that help secure the unique enjoyment of custom motorcycles for future generations of riders.

“Students took pride in building this motorcycle, spending countless hours customizing and building the custom bike,” said Bernie Thompson, PSI campus director.  “Participating in the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building competition gives our students a chance to combine the technical training they’ve received at our school with their raw creative skills like metal fabrication and welding.”

PSI students modified the bike with products donated by numerous aftermarket companies: an S&S Cycle engine; Baker Drivetrain transmission; ACCEL digital fuel injector, coils and spark plugs; Diamond Heads cooling system; Sherwin Williams paint; Gardner-Westcott Company chrome plated and stainless steel fasteners; apc parts and accessories; Supertrapp performance exhaust; Tricky Air & Billet shocks; Cometic Gasket high-performance gaskets; JIMS performance parts; Frame Lock motorcycle clamping system to prevent tipping during hauling; Corbin seats and saddles; Avon Tyres tires; Daytona Sensors, LLC sensors.

The PSI bike will debut at the 2011 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, which takes place on Main Street, Aug. 8-14, in Sturgis, S.D.  The World Championship is a free-public-admission four-day event that opens Sunday, Aug.7, with an awards ceremony at 3:00 pm MST on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011.

PSI, which is an official sponsor of both the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame, Inc. as well as World Championship of Custom Bike Building, offers a 9-week course as part of the American V-Twin Program that focuses on custom bike building and performance combining technical training with creativity and design elements including metal fabrication, welding and finish painting.  Students start from scratch and build a rolling chassis and frame, as well as learn how to add engine, drivetrain, transmission, wheel and suspension components and a variety of aftermarket performance parts, which are popular in the motorcycle industry.

“PSI is the first motorcycle training facility to formally train and accredit students to achieve the skills necessary to customize motorcycles,” added Thompson.  “Partnering with the World Championship allows us to offer our students the best resources in motorcycle customization.  Plus our students can participate in exciting, rewarding industry events like Sturgis.”
