STURGIS BUFFALO CHIP® PRESENTS THE BIKER BELLES™ – 4TH ANNUAL WOMEN’S FUNDRAISING EVENT

December 14th, 2011 No comments

A Celebration of Real Women, Real Stories, and Real Fun

Sturgis, SD – The Sturgis Buffalo Chip will once again recognize the passion, diversity and spirit of women in motorcycling with the Biker Belles celebration event on Wednesday, August 8th, 2012 during the 72nd Sturgis Rally.  Tickets for the Biker Belles celebration can be purchased now at www.bikerbelles.com.

Created to raise funds for charities, the Biker Belles bring women, their families and friends together to celebrate the role they play in shaping the culture, sport, art and history of motorcycling.

Following the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame Induction Breakfast in the historic town of Deadwood, the Biker Belles event will kick off at 11am at the Lodge at Deadwood with registration, and events.   The Biker Belles celebration will continue by departing from the Lodge at Deadwood for a spectacular ride lead by Ride Captain, and famed Motor Maids member Meg McDonough and friends including renowned builder, land speed record holder, Laura Klock. The scenic ride from Deadwood will travel  to the Sturgis Buffalo Chip for a special Biker Belles shindig including food, beverage, shopping, fashion show, silent and live auction, and, entertainment by Iron Cowgirl Missy.  The evening’s festivities will be highlighted with a headline concert in the Sturgis Buffalo Chip amphitheater.

“The Biker Belles event was inspiring and an awesome opportunity to meet new friends and fellow enthusiasts.  Every age and every level of experience rider participated and it was all about getting to know each other,” says Laura Klock of Klock Werks Custom Cycles.

Thanks to the Biker Belles sponsors Interstate Battery, Pepsi, Knology, Deadwood Chamber, and the Sturgis Buffalo Chip, 100% of the riders contributions will benefit two South Dakota Charities – Helping with Horsepower™ and Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame.  Helping with Horsepower is a program that helps young women and girls who are at risk or are victims of abuse. The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum is a world-class motorcycle museum that will use the contributions to expand or enhance exhibits that feature women riders and their role in the history and culture of motorcycling.

Toni Woodruff, the Sturgis Buffalo Chip’s event coordinator for the Biker Belles, states, “We are very excited to build upon the success of Biker Belles celebration and we look forward to expanding our community of women riders and enthusiasts while contributing to South Dakota charities in the process.”

Tickets for the 2012 Biker Belles celebration are available  at www.bikerbelles.com or by calling (605) 347-9000. The ticket contribution for the Biker Belles celebration is $150 per person with 100% going directly to the chosen charities. RIDE FOR KIDS RAISES $197,000 FOR PEDIATRIC BRAIN TUMOR FOUNDATION

September 30th, 2011 No comments

The first Ride for Kids® event in 1984 raised $4,000 for childhood brain tumor research. Twenty-eight years and 500 events later, motorcyclists have contributed well over $50 million toward the cause. Yesterday’s ride in Ellicott City, Md., added another $197,015 in donations to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation® (PBTF).

Young people like Maggie, Ruxandra, Janell, Nicholas, Paige, and Zachary are the reason we ride. As the stars of the 20th Baltimore-Washington Ride for Kids®, they led a leisurely 50-mile tour past beautiful homes, farmland and woods.

Back at Turf Valley Resort for the Celebration of Life program, the 450 participants heard from the brain tumor survivors, a star’s parent, and a researcher from Johns Hopkins.

“Because of research funding from the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, we have developed targeted therapy which goes after only the cancer cells and does much less damage,” said Dr. Nishant Agrawal.

Maryland State Senator Jim Robey presented a proclamation and a senate resolution, and Ginnie Gick offered a proclamation on behalf of Howard County.

Ride for Kids® supports medical research and family support programs with the help of countless fundraisers. At this event, the leaders were:

  • Individuals: Bob and Suzanne Henig, $36,186
  • Motorcycle club/chapter: The Tribe Motorcycle Club, $20,511
  • Motorcycle business: Bob’s BMW, $83,137

Donated Ride for Kids® drawing prizes went to Bob Henig (Honda motorcycle); Greg Balestrero (AGV helmet and Cardo Systems headset); James Hendershot (Dunlop tire); and Cathy Peifer (Tourmaster luggage).

Many thanks went to the dedicated volunteers who worked year-round on this event, including task force leaders Taryn Wilson-Wheatley, Joe Pruss and Marcy Rich. Mark your calendar now for next year’s ride on Sunday, Sept. 23.
