(Laconia, NH)  The Broken Spoke Saloon, the world’s biggest biker bar, is ready for Laconia Motorcycle Week! The Laconia location will be celebrating in style as they play host to some of the hottest acts including Lex Gray and legendary comedian Gallagher, plus oil wrestling, a mechanical bull and more!

The party is less than 2 week away, starting on Friday, June 10th with the 1980’s tribute band Chyldz Play.  From then through the next nine days, the Broken Spoke Saloon will be a prime destination during Laconia Motorcycle Week. The entertainment calendar will feature nightly entertainment with great music and frequent appearances by the Jagermeister Girls all culminating in a “smashtastic” show on June 18th with Gallagher who will make a stop at the Broken Spoke Saloon on his “Looking for Intelligent Life Tour.” Fans are sure to get treated to not only the best comedy around, but also have the chance to leave covered with pulp, seeds and fruit!

While the stage is rockin’, you can test your talents on the mechanical bull or take a turn at the corn-hole toss.  Don’t miss the Broken Spoke’s female oil wrestling with some of the area’s hottest ladies, a baby pool, oil and a lucky volunteer from the audience to help the ladies get oiled and ready.

The Broken Spoke kicked off the season with their grand re-opening on Cinco de Mayo, May 5th.  They have been hard at work during the off-season, improving the property to give you the very best experience in Weirs Beach.  There’s an outdoor party area and the music has moved indoors – where it will be every weekend, all summer long.  And still with no cover!

Plus, patrons will get a chance to win Broken Spoke Campground Sturgis camping spots all summer long!  One spot will be given away every Sunday from 4-5 p.m. until July 31st (must be present to win). Moose Racing, Parts Unlimited Support U.S. Team at International Six Days Enduro

June 1st, 2011 No comments

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is pleased to welcome the support of Moose Racing and Parts Unlimited to the U.S. effort at the 2011 International Six Days Enduro (ISDE). A U.S. squad of 28 riders will take on the best off-road racers in the world Aug. 8-13 in Kotka-Hamina, Finland.

“Although the race itself is only six days, it takes 365 days and considerable effort by numerous volunteers to make the ISDE program a reality,” said AMA Off-Road Racing Manager Chuck Weir. “Without the support of companies like Moose Racing, Parts Unlimited and others, it wouldn’t be possible. As a brand that represents off-road racing to its core, Moose Racing is a perfect complement to the U.S. team effort.”

As part of their sponsorship, Moose Racing, a Parts Unlimited brand, will provide each member of the U.S. team, including all club team, women’s team, Junior Trophy Team and Trophy Team riders, with a top-of-the-line Expedition Jacket.

“Moose Racing and Parts Unlimited are once again very proud to be an integral part of the U.S. National Team at this year’s ISDE in Finland,” said Moose Racing General Manager Brad Kruckenberg. “For well over a decade, Moose Racing has been sponsoring off-road racing series throughout the U.S., along with the championship teams and racers participating in them. The ISDE represents the pinnacle of achievement for these participants and a reward for their hard work and dedication.

“In addition to outfitting our sponsored riders with the superior gear that Moose Racing has always been known for, this year we wanted to take it up a notch and let the entire team know how proud we are to be associated with all of them,” Kruckenberg added. “Every U.S. team member will be the proud recipient of a Moose Racing Expedition Jacket customized with their name and this year’s ISDE information. It’s just another way for us to give a little something back to those who thrill us with their exceptional abilities week in and week out.”

Moose Racing and Parts Unlimited join Arai, Spectro and Motion Pro as supporters of the U.S. ISDE team.

America’s motorcyclists can help support the U.S. ISDE team, and look good while doing it, by buying an official U.S. ISDE T-Shirt. All proceeds support the massive effort necessary to transport the riders, bikes and crew to and from Finland. To buy a shirt, just visit the AMA’s online store at AmericanMotorcyclist.com > ISDE Team Info > Buy An Official T-Shirt.

Harley Factory Team is Ready to Race at Springfield

Coolbeth to Ride Screamin’ Eagle Harley-Davidson XR750 at AMA Pro Twins Opener

MILWAUKEE (May 25, 2011) –  The Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Factory Team will have three-time champion rider Kenny Coolbeth in the saddle to open the 2011 Grand National Twins portion of the AMA Pro Harley-Davidson Insurance Flat Track Championship on May 22 at the historic Springfield Mile in Springfield, Ill. Coolbeth returns for a sixth season aboard the factory Harley-Davidson XR750.

“I’m off to a good start this season, but it will be good to get on the big bike again,” said Coolbeth, who is currently in third place in the Grand National standings after five short-track races on single-cylinder motorcycles, including a win at DuQuoin, Ill. “I enjoy both styles of flat-track, but I’ve always done better on the twins. I expect this to be another competitive season, with a lot of the same racers up front. This series really keeps you on your toes.”

Tuning for Coolbeth will be Craig Lager, now in his 12th season with the team and his seventh as Harley-Davidson Factory Team crew chief.

“We’ll open the season with the same rules package as last year,” said Lager, “so we won’t have a learning curve in that regard. We used the off season to develop the bike and keep our edge. In this series there are always some tracks that favor certain riders and bikes, so we’ve got to be as competitive as possible at every venue.”

Coolbeth has won three times on the Springfield Mile track, located at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, where riders can reach 140 mph on the long straights and often race elbow-to-elbow in packs that average better than 100 mph for each lap.

“The Harley team is ready for the Twins season,” said Coolbeth. “We did some testing on the half-mile at Circleville, Ohio, a few weeks ago and learned some things. I’ve been riding motocross to stay in shape and have raced my XR750 in some local events.”

The 12-race Grand National Twins schedule includes a June 11 stop at a new venue, the Hartford Motor Speedway half-mile in Hartford, Mich. The series also makes a return after more than 10 years to the famous Sacramento Mile for a July 30 race that will be a feature of the California State Fair at the Cal Expo Center.

“I think both those tracks will be good for the Harley-Davidson team,” said Lager. “Kenny has raced at Sacramento in the past and done well there. The Hartford track will be new for all the teams, but it’s very similar to the I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., and we’ve won there in the past.”

Coolbeth Brings Experience

Coolbeth has been racing – and winning – on motorcycles since he was five years old. The 33-year-old Connecticut native is a third-generation motorcycle racer and has been a member of the Screamin’ Eagle Harley-Davidson flat track team since 2006.

Coolbeth, a three-time Grand National Champion riding for the Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Factory Team (2006-2008), finished the 2010 season in fifth place. Coolbeth won on the Canterbury Mile in Shakopee, Minn., on Sept. 11, and had six other podium appearances in 16 races. He has 24 wins in seven seasons of racing at the Grand National level. Coolbeth was named the AMA Flat Track Rookie of the Year in 1994, and began a steady climb up the ranks in Grand National competition. He won his first Grand National race in 2002.

Coolbeth once worked construction jobs between races, but now races full-time for a living, training between events on both flat-track and motocross motorcycles. During the long New England winters, ice racing on local ponds keeps his skills sharp.

“Riding for the Harley-Davidson Factory Team is still the best opportunity in the sport,” said Coolbeth. “They give me excellent equipment and put me in position to win the championship every season. This team has produced so many Grand National champions over the years, I feel like all those great riders are with me every time I zip up the factory leathers.”

AMA Names U.S. Team for 2011 FIM Junior Motocross World Championships in Cingoli, Italy

May 27th, 2011 No comments

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) has assembled a team of the best youth motocross racers in the world to represent the United States at the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) Junior Motocross Championships in Cingoli, Italy, on Aug. 13-14. The U.S. team will defend the World Championship it won last year in France.

Gabriel Jairala from San Antonio, Texas, and Derek Drake from San Luis Obispo, Calif., will compete in the 65cc class riding KTM 65s. Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green riders Mark Worth from Queen Creek, Ariz., and Chase Bell from Cairo, Ga., will race 85cc bikes. In the 125cc class, the United States will be represented by Rockstar Energy Suzuki rider Joey Savatgy from Thomasville, Ga., and Yamaha amateur support rider Chris Alldredge from Powell Butte, Ore.

Kawasaki Team Green Motocross Supervisor Ryan Holiday will coordinate the U.S. team’s efforts as team manager.

In addition to the official team riders, other American riders will participate in the event, as well. Those riders include Josh and Michael Mosiman from Sebastopol, Calif. Josh will race in the 125cc class and Michael will compete in the 85cc class.

“Last year was the first time the United States fielded a complete team for this event, and it was an unbelievable experience for these youngsters and their families,” said AMA Motocross Manager Kip Bigelow.

Bigelow noted that while American riders have won individual World Championships in youth motocross — Ryan Villopoto in Italy in 2003, Blake Wharton in Bulgaria in 2007 and Eli Tomac in New Zealand in 2009 — 2010 was the first year the team brought home the overall team title.

“Of course, Jake Pinhancos, from Massachusetts, won an overall last year, and that was a masterful accomplishment, but standing on the podium with ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ playing, realizing that the United States had just fielded the best youth amateur motocross team in the world and beat out 33 other countries present, was an experience like no other,” Bigelow said. “I had no doubt in my mind that we would find the support to defend our title this year. Thanks to backing from the AMA and FIM North America, this will be another fantastic adventure for these riders and their families.”

Returning to the world event in the 125cc class for the U.S. team is last years’ class runner-up, Joey Savatgy. Savatgy says he has some unfinished business to attend to as he nearly won an individual World Championship in 2010.

“Last year was incredible,” Savatgy said. “It was sick to be part of the winning team. I got to hang out with some pretty cool people last year and I’m hoping to see them again this year. Racing against the top competitors in the world really opened my eyes to the level of talent that is out there. I am looking forward to working with the other members of the U.S. Junior Team to defend our gold metal this year in Italy.”

As a team manager, Holiday brings a long list of championships earned under the Monster Energy Team Green tent and will surely be instrumental in the success of the team.

“The opportunity to help some of our top amateur riders represent the United States is very exciting,” Holiday said. “I’ve always been a big fan of international motocross and the Motocross of Nations, so being part of this will be a lot of fun. Our team is strong and hopefully we can establish a winning tradition for the U.S. Junior Motocross Team at this event.”

The AMA will hold a fund-raising auction in July for the team. Look for details on the AMA website, AmericanMotorcyclist.com, in the near future. If you would like to donate to the U.S. Junior World Motocross effort, contact Kip Bigelow at kbigelow@ama-cycle.org.
