RIDE BECAUSE WE CARE RAISES OVER $7,500 FOR FALLEN OFFICER’S FAMILIES

July 19th, 2010 1 comment

The ride was a great success. It was a honor to ride with the LAMAs and aal the bikers to raise $7500. This shows that bikers care and want to show their support and love to those officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, Dave Curtis and Jeff Kocab. The money was collected by the PBA and they where very happy to say all the money would go directly to the families. My thanks go out to everyone who took part in such a great cause. – Ron Galletti

MID-OHIO PROVES TO BE A BANNER WEEKEND FOR THE CROZIER ROBERSON MOTORSPORTS/DNA ENERGY DRINK TEAM

Lexington, Ohio…(July 18, 2010) the Honda Super Cycle Weekend Presented by Dunlop Tire at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course proved to be a banner weekend for the Crozier Roberson Motorsports/DNA Energy Drink Team.

Taking two top ten finishes in the AMA Pro SuperSport class, DNA Energy Drink pilot Joey Pascarella grabbed the 2010 SuperSport West title for DNA Energy Drink.

“We came into this event with a large lead in the point’s battle coming,” explains Pascarella.  “We knew if we finished ahead of Elena Myers, we could take the title and that was our goal.  Everything went according to plan and I couldn’t be more pumped.

Crozier Roberson Motorsports is a really good team and DNA Energy Drink is a great sponsor.  It is really awesome to bring both of them this Championship. Now that we have the title locked up, we can go for the win at Laguna Seca and I’m definitely looking forward to that.”

For Bobby Fong, Mid-Ohio also proved to be an outstanding weekend as he took back-to-back podium finishes for the team in both AMA Pro Daytona SportBike races.

“We finally got the monkey off our back and showed what we can do,” said an obviously elated Fong, who earned a second on Saturday and a third on Sunday.  “Those are my best finishes in this series to date.  The team gave me an incredible Ducati.  It ran flawlessly all weekend.  They really out did themselves. I want to congratulate Joey for winning the SuperSport West crown.”

Adding additional words of praise was teammate Michael Beck who unfortunately didn’t have as good a weekend as Fong and Pascarella.

“This was just one of those ‘that’s racing’ weekends,” said Beck.  “I got a good start today and was already moving up through the field when we had a mechanical that put us out of the race.  But, we will be ready for Monterey and that should be a good one for us.”

“Getting two podium finishes and a championship, all is one weekend, is unbelievable,” smiles co-team owner Robbie Roberson.  We had hoped to do well this time out, but I didn’t dream the weekend would be this spectacular.  It is amazing.”

“I am so proud of everyone on this team, said team manager and co-owner Mark Crozier.  “They did an outstanding job. All the long hours and their determination definitely paid off.  Things are good and I know there is more to come.  Both Robbie and I want to thank all our sponsors who made winning the title possible, especially DNA Energy Drink.  They are a pleasure to work with and we are looking forward to carrying their banner on to the podium time and time again.”

Crozier Roberson Motorsports is sponsored by: DNA Energy Drink, Quality Brands, Inc., FMF, Arai Helmets, Race Tech, Motion Pro, Pit Bull, EBC Brakes, EK, Melillimoto Ducati, Moto-Heaven.com, XES, Thrust Company, HEL, Woodcraft, Armour Bodies, Puma, Held Gloves, GP Tech, Active, Zero Gravity and Christopher Bean Coffee.

PILOT STUDY OFFERS INSIGHT FOR LARGER FEDERAL INVESTIGATION OF MOTORCYCLE CRASHES

July 19th, 2010 No comments

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published the results from a pilot study that tested methodologies to be used in a more in-depth investigation into motorcycle crashes. The larger study is now under way at the Oklahoma Transportation Center, a well-respected research facility, under the supervision of Oklahoma State University (OSU).

“The AMA has long advocated for, and supported, a new federal study into the causes of motorcycle crashes and motorcyclist fatalities, particularly in light of evolving demographics and changing technology,” said AMA Senior Vice President for Government Relations Ed Moreland. “A comprehensive motorcycle crash study is long overdue, and this pilot study is the first step to making sure we collect the data necessary and employ the proper procedures to learn lessons that will save lives.”

The current report does not focus on crash data from the scaled-down pilot investigation, but rather the investigative procedures that are crucial to the integrity of the OSU study. “Motorcycle Crash Causes and Outcomes: Pilot Study” describes the processes investigators used to collect crash data, the type of data collected and offers recommendations for a larger motorcycle crash study that’s partially funded by a $100,000 grant from the AMA.

The pilot study can be downloaded from AmericanMotorcyclist.com/legisltn/documents/MC_Crash_Pilot_Study.pdf.

In 2005, Congress approved the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users, and the legislation called for the study. Lawmakers pledged $2.8 million for the research, and asked the motorcycling community to pitch in.

In 2007, the AMA committed $100,000, and AMA members contributed an additional $27,000 through the AMA Fuel the Fund campaign. Since then, six state safety programs — New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Texas and Wisconsin — have pledged another $560,000.

Westat, based in Rockville, Md., and Dynamic Science Inc., based in Anaheim, Calif., conducted the pilot study for the federal government. Over a three-month data-collection period, investigators worked with five police agencies in seven jurisdictions. Notifications were received on 53 motorcycle crashes, of which 23 cases were completed. Investigators concluded that data collection is the most-challenging aspect of such a study and offer suggestions to improve that process.

The pilot study reports that the average cost per completed case is $7,500, which includes a margin for dropped cases. However, this figure includes data collection only and does not include overhead costs of forms, manuals, other equipment and back-office support.

The last major motorcycle crash causation study, commonly called the “Hurt Report” in reference to its lead researcher, the late professor Hugh H. “Harry” Hurt, was completed in 1980. The Hurt Report provided a wealth of data that has been used to develop training and strategies to help keep riders safer on the road. In the decades since, the traffic environment has changed enormously, prompting the AMA to begin campaigning for a new study several years ago.
