Harley-Davidson Factory Team Has Tough Night At Lima
Wiles, Halbert and Weidman Fill an All-Harley Podium
LIMA, Ohio (June 26, 2010) – Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle® factory rider Kenny Coolbeth placed 14th in the AMA Pro K&N Grand National Twins main at the Allen County Fairgrounds half-mile. The race was won by KK Motorcycle Supply/Mike & Eddie Adkins rider Henry Wiles, who led every lap on a Harley-Davidson XR-750 motorcycle.
Coolbeth qualified for the main by finishing second in a semi-final heat. In the main, he was unable to run higher than 13th place.
“We didn’t get settled in for qualifying, and had to go through the semi, which put us in the back row for the start,” said Craig Lager, crew chief for the Harley-Davidson factory team. “That’s a tough spot to be in on this track and we made the best of it. Kenny got around a few riders and we ran at a good pace but it was really hard to make a pass because the track is rough and visibility is not great. We need to be better off the truck at Lima and start closer to the front.”
Wiles, who also won the four-lap Dash for Cash bonus race, led from the start and stretched his lead to more than five seconds in the closing laps of the 25-lap main. King Kustoms/KK Motorcycle Supply rider Sammy Halbert was unchallenged in second place for the entire race and finished 6.564 seconds behind Wiles on a Harley-Davidson. White’s Harley-Davidson rider Matt Weidman was third, also on a Harley-Davidson.
The win at Lima moves Wiles into a tie with American Agip/Lloyd Brothers Ducati Joe Kopp in the season points standings for the 2010 Grand National Championship. Kopp and Wiles have 129 points. Zanotti Racing rider Jake Johnson is third with 121 points, followed by Halbert with 116 points, Blue Springs Harley-Davidson rider Jared Mees with 115 points, and Coolbeth in sixth place with 98 points.
The AMA Grand National Twins will next race on July 10 at the I-96 Speedway half-mile in Lake Odessa, Mich.
