Proceeds to Support  Breast Cancer Network of Strength®

MILWAUKEE (June 2, 2010) – Today Harley-Davidson Motor Company announced that its MotorClothes® Pink Label Collection has generated $100,000 in proceeds since the launch of the line in January that will be donated to the Breast Cancer Network of Strength®.

The Harley-Davidson® Pink Label Collection was inspired by women who have been affected by breast cancer and designed to provide them support during their difficult ride. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of every Pink Label Collection item helps fund the YourShoes 24/7 Support Center, which is administered by the national non-profit Breast Cancer Network of Strength®. The YourShoes center, which helped nearly 50,000 people in 2008 alone, is staffed by breast cancer survivors who provide immediate emotional relief, at any time of day or night, to people affected by breast cancer.

“We’re thrilled to be able to make a donation of this size to Breast Cancer Network of Strength,” said Kathy Whalen, Category Manager, General Merchandise, Harley-Davidson. “The response we’ve had to the new Pink Label Collection has been remarkable, and we thank our dealers and our loyal H-D customers for their role in making it such a quick and resounding success.”

The Pink Label Collection, which is comprised of 12 of the most popular women’s MotorClothes silhouettes, was conceived and designed by the Harley-Davidson Women’s MotorClothes Product Development and Design team. Following are some of the highlights of the collection:

  • The Pink Label Leather Jacket (P/N 98160-10VW, $295) combines lightweight leather, a fixed lining, multiple zippered pockets and pink-embroidered graphics.

  • Made from 73 percent cotton/27 percent polyester with pink-embroidered graphics, the new Pink Label Activewear Hoodie (P/N 99171-10-VW, $60) and Activewear Pant (P/N 99172-10VW, $40) are casually comfortable.

  • The 93 percent cotton/7 percent spandex Pink Label S/S Tee (P/N 99175-10VW, $30) is embroidered on both sides and available in XS – 3W sizes.

  • Made from 100 percent cotton with an elastic band, the Pink Label Headwrap with Pink Embroidery (P/N 99499-10VW, $15) can be worn as a headband or wrap.

“We can’t thank Harley-Davidson enough for their support,” said Margaret C. Kirk, president and CEO, Breast Cancer Network of Strength. “The funds from the Pink Label Collection will help ensure that no one faces this disease alone.”

Caucus Grows to 12 Members

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 2, 2010 – U.S. Representative Walter B. Jones (R-NC) officially joined the Congressional Motorcycle Safety Caucus on June 1, 2010, joining 11 other Members of Congress including Caucus Co-chairs Representatives Burgess (R-TX) and Giffords (D-AZ).  The Congressional Motorcycle Safety Caucus is a bipartisan group of Members of Congress committed to improving and advancing the safety of motorcyclists.

I have been a strong advocate of motorcycle safety for many years now,” said Jones.  “It is important that riders and motorists alike are reminded to take every precaution to keep our riders safe and this caucus serves as a great platform.”

Jones represents North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District along the eastern coast, an attractive area for many motorcyclists and home of the world famous Outer Banks which include Cape Hatteras, Kill Devil Hills, Duck Island, and the home of the world’s first airplane flight, Kitty Hawk.

The Motorcycle Safety Caucus and its members have been instrumental in focusing Congress’ attention on the safety of motorcyclists by passing Congressional Resolutions supporting the goals of May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, hosting a Capitol Hill event attended by the Secretary of Transportation, drawing attention to Ride to Work Day and ensuring that motorcycle safety is remembered in the transportation reauthorization process.

The Motorcycle Industry Council’s (MIC) Senior Vice President for Government Relations, Kathy Van Kleeck noted “We are delighted that Congressman Jones has joined the Caucus and look forward to all of his contributions.”

Duane Taylor, MIC’s Director of Federal Affairs said, “We are excited that the Caucus is growing and encourage all riders to contact their Representative to encourage him or her to join as well.”

The Motorcycle Industry Council exists to preserve, protect and promote motorcycling through government relations, communications and media relations, statistics and research, aftermarket programs, development of data communications standards, and activities surrounding technical and regulatory issues. It is a not-for-profit, national industry association representing manufacturers and distributors of motorcycles, scooters, motorcycle/ATV/ROV parts and accessories, and members of allied trades such as insurance, finance and investment companies, media companies and consultants.

The MIC is headquartered in Irvine, Calif., with a government relations office adjacent to Washington, D.C. First called the MIC in 1970, the organization has been in operation since 1914. Visit the MIC at www.mic.org.
