Brad Ruel, from The Wrench passes away

July 15th, 2009 9 comments

Brad Ruel 43, international custom bike builder from Brandon, FL passed away unexpectedly at his home Tuesday, July 14, 2009.  He will be missed by all who knew him.  Ron Galletti owner of Born To Ride, Tampa, FL says, “Brad was one of the good guys in our industry! He was a first class nice person to all he met or did business with.  He was self made from hard work and he turned into a pro International Custom Bike Builder that designed and fabricated one of the best motorcycle frames in the business.  He was voted most popular builder on the TV series Metric Revolution Bike Build Off. His work ethic was non stop and he was on the road across the country at many bike events every week. I remember one day many years ago when Brad talked to me about starting a motorcycle shop and wanted my input. At the time he was a motocross racer who was doing very well. Not long after that The Wrench was born and Brad never stopped working on his dream. I actually bought Brad’s very first custom bike build in 1992 and still own the bike today. Brad you left us all way too soon and you will be missed by all who knew you and loved you. Our prayers and thoughts go out to your wife Karen and family.”

S&S Cycle Announces Price Reductions

July 15th, 2009 4 comments

Viola, WI (July 2, 2009) S&S Cycle announces a reduction in price for two of their premium products, the S&S high performance clutch, and the S&S single bore tuned induction kits.

“We know these are both excellent products, and that they are superior to just about anything on the market.  We believe this price reduction will allow more customers to see just how good they really are.” Said Director of Business Development and Sales, Michael Scaletta. “S&S Cycle has always been known for big, powerful engines, but people just don’t think of us for clutches . . .Yet.”

The S&S high performance clutch features 10 steel plates and 11 friction plates to increase the number of friction surfaces available.  The S&S clutch comes with a spring set that allows the clutch to handle up to 140 horsepower, with clutch lever pull that is equivalent to stock.  Stronger springs are available for applications up to 200 horsepower.  The S&S clutch is available for 1991-’06 big twins, except 2006 Dyna® models.  The suggested retail price for these clutches has been reduced by a whopping $200.00.  MSRP for the mechanically actuated versions was $899.95, but they are now priced at $699.95.  The hydraulically actuated versions were $949.95 MSRP, and are now $749.95.

S&S single bore tuned induction kits have also been reduced in price so that MSRP on a complete system is under $500.00.  Some applications are as low as $385.00.  In addition, ordering has been simplified with a single part number.  Customers simply specify model and year of the motorcycle, the preferred finish of the intake runners, and the desired color of the filters.  Not only does the aggressive styling of the tuned induction kits look great, the tuned induction improves performance across the rpm range, with a real boost in the midrange.

Director of Product management Charlie Hadayia Jr. had this to say “The classic teardrop air cleaner has been and image associated with S&S Cycle since 1975, but the S&S tuned induction kits look so good and perform so well, that they may become another classic S&S image in time.  We’re sure that the new lower price for the S&S tuned runner and the S&S clutch will encourage customers to give them a try!”

H.O.G. MEMBERS RODE 4,373,937 MILES ON MILLION MILE MONDAY

July 15th, 2009 7 comments

MILWAUKEE – (July 2, 2009) On Monday, June 29, 2009, Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) members around the world logged 4,373,937 miles during the club’s second annual Million Mile Monday riding marathon.

“Our members set the bar pretty high after last year’s three million miles, and we are ecstatic to have exceeded that by more than 45 percent this year,” said Benny Suggs, General Manager of the Harley Owners Group. “But more important than the number of miles ridden is that so many of our members joined together on this special day to share the experience of motorcycling.”

To put the cumulative mileage in perspective, 4,373,937 miles is the equivalent of almost 77,000,000 American football fields (goal line to goal line) or more than 70,000,000 100-meter soccer fields.

If you could ride from the earth to the moon, you’d have to make more than nine round trips to log 4,373,937 miles on your odometer.

The world’s three longest rivers – the Nile, the Amazon, and the Yangtze – share a collective length of 12,124 miles. You’d have to travel the length of each river more than 360 times before traveling 4,373,937 miles.

Riding 4,373,937 miles on an average motorcycle compared to driving a standard passenger car saves nearly 109,375 gallons of gas (or 5,609 barrels of crude oil); at $3 a gallon, that’s a $328,125 savings in fuel.

Million Mile Monday is an annual event on the last Monday of June and is open to all H.O.G. members– riders or passengers. The feat was recorded by logging into the club’s exclusive members-only website (members.hog.com), where participants registered their miles ridden on that day. For more information about H.O.G., log onto www.hog.com.

Founded in 1983, the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) is the official riding club of the Harley-Davidson Motor Company. H.O.G. rallies are held around the globe to celebrate Harley-Davidson motorcycle riding.
