The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has voted to stay enforcement of a lead law that currently bans the sale of youth-model motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). The stay, which extends through May 1, 2011, follows a unanimous vote by Acting Chairwoman Nancy Nord and Commissioner Thomas Moore.
The AMA Government Relations Department is currently examining the 25-page Stay of Enforcement document and will issue more details shortly. It can be viewed by clicking here.
The law in question is the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). Designed to protect children from lead in toys that might easily end up in children’s mouths, the language of the legislation has ensnared a number of products that have little exposure risk, including youth-model motorcycles and ATVs.

The 2009 Bud Run recepient is 3 year old Cole Rosandich. Cole is an energetic little boy who has Cerebral Palsy. He needs a procedure called Spinal Dorsal Rhizotomy, which is an operation that could help him walk. Cole is supported by his mother and father and hehas a brother and sister who both love him very much. Check out Cole’s myspace page for more information.

Harley-Davidson has been a sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) since 1980 helping find a cure for the more than 40 muscular diseases covered by the MDA. Harley riders participate in Harley Day “at MDA summer camps and in various fund-raisers for the MDA. In 2007, the Charlotte Chapter of the MDA held their inaugural Black Tie and Blue Jeans Harley-Davidson themed fund-raiser with all proceeds going to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, commonly called Lou Gehrig’s disease). Attendees were treated to an evening of food and fun (including photos taken on a new Harley), temporary tattoos, a silent auction and a live auction that featured a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle.
