“I’m honored to work with such a fine family owned and operated company like Tobacco Depot. They have 17 locations in Florida, all within our TV demographics. With this partnership Born To Ride magazine will now be available in all 17 locations. Their knowledge and passion in the cigar industry matches the passion that we have for our motorcycle industry; and when you look at it as a whole we have a strong parallel of freedom and diversity. I’m looking forward to growing our BTR Cigar Club and I’m sure Tobacco Depot will be a major factor in the success of this new venture. I encourage everyone to come out to the very first cigar event Nub Live 2009 at Tobacco Depot’s Home Office on June 6. You will be able to sign up for the BTR Cigar Club, listen to great music, receive some great gifts, and learn more about the fine art of cigars.”

Bud Light to serve as exclusive malt beverage sponsor at select concert venues
Los Angeles, Calif. (May 5, 2009) – Live Nation (NYSE: LYV), the world’s largest live music company, today announced that Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. has signed a three-year sponsorship agreement that will extend a relationship that has been in place since 2000.
Under the terms of the renewal, Bud Light will be the exclusive malt beverage sponsor at select Live Nation amphitheaters across the U.S. Anheuser-Busch will also use the Live Nation events as a platform for two of its signature summer promotions — Budweiser’s “Ticket to Summer,” which provides adult consumers with a chance to win tickets to marquee live music shows, and Bud Light Port Paradise, the brand’s largest summer promotion.
In a shocking testimony yesterday to a Senate Finance Committee round table on how to fund the Obama administration’s $1.2 trillion health care initiative for universal coverage, three of the thirteen academia experts who testified recommended dramatic increases in the federal excise tax on alcohol as part of their plans. While the mainstream press picked up on CSPI’s recommendation of increasing taxes on sugary soft drinks, it was their push for a 50% increase in alcohol taxes (which was the most modest proposal of them all), with beer and wine equalized according to alcohol content, that caught our jaded eye and is making suppliers go berserk.
As more Americans tattoo their bodies, some have wondered whether there may be a hidden risk (other than the risk of regretting the tattoo a few years down the road).
Many inks are made with metals; blue, for example, contains cobalt and aluminum, and red may contain mercury sulfide. That, along with the fact that tattooing can be traumatizing to the skin, prompted suspicion that tattoos might lead to skin cancer.
Studies in recent years have documented a few cases of cancer at a tattoo site.
Increasing numbers of people who have serious medical conditions, such as diabetes, are turning to tattooing to identify themselves on the chance a health emergency leaves them unable to communicate, says Saleh Aldasouqi, a diabetes expert from Cape Girardeau, Mo., who will present a report on the topic Friday in Houston at the annual meeting of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
“Like it or not, a lot of people are resorting to this way of medical identification,” Aldasouqi says. “It’s not that we (doctors) are promoting it. It’s more, ‘What should we do about it?’ It is happening.” Read more…
In a continued effort to combat counterfeiting, Mexico’s distributor of Cuban cigars has established a certification system to validate tobacco shops, department stores and boutique restaurants, such as those in the Bodeguita del Medio chain, throughout the country.
Importadora y Exportadora de Puros y Tabacos (IEPT) is the regional broker for all of Mexico’s Cuban cigars. The company, which is licensed by global Cuban cigar distributor Habanos S.A., has been fighting the counterfeit industry for years, as the problem is inordinately severe in Mexico, especially in the popular tourist areas.
Cigar Maker Teams Up With Custom Bike Builder For Year-Long Tour And Giveaway
Nashville, May 18, 2009: CAO, one of the world’s foremost premium cigar manufacturers, announced today that it is partnering with custom bike builder Sucker Punch Sally’s (SPS) to create a truly one-of-a-kind custom CAO-inspired bike. The bike will tour the United States and ultimately be given away to a lucky winner.
Founded in 2002, SPS has garnered a reputation for their old school no-nonsense style of stripped-down bobbers and choppers, having received industry awards for their “66 Bobber” and “The Traditional” bikes. Inspired by the CAO America cigar brand, the bobber-style swinger bike will be dubbed “Lady Liberty” and will be adorned with the mantra, “Free To Ride–Free To Smoke.” “The modernized old school aesthetic of the Sucker Punch style is a perfect fit for our approach toward making cigars,” commented CAO Senior Vice President of Marketing Mike Conder. CAO Director of Lifestyle Marketing Jon Huber added, “In the coming weeks, viewers will be able to watch a video documentary on the ‘Making of Lady Liberty’ and obtain updates on our schedule of tour dates.”
